Dream Foundry

Posted: May 21, 2018 in nature poems, thought stream

At dverse Kim is hosting and has challenged us to write a Quadrille ~ a 44-word poem to include the word ‘rain’

With lilac, rosemary
and birch wood
we set a fire going.
Flames tear at night
reaching for the moon
and sparks rain as if
wanting to become stars,
fire
adding to fire.
That eternal engine,
that foundry
where dreams are
lost,
smelted
and reborn.

  1. I love the rain of sparks… I still remember those nights when we would sit and watch a fire in a dark night… but it’s too dry for fires right now.

  2. Shawna says:

    This is fantastic!

  3. Grace says:

I admire the fire and scents of nature in work Paul ~ Fire adding fire, I can believe rain wanting to become stars ~

  4. kim881 says:

I love the title, Paul, and I can smell the ‘lilac, rosemary and birch wood’ smoke. I love the lines:
    ‘Flames tear at night
    reaching for the moon
    and sparks rain as if
    wanting to become stars’.

  5. Tranature - quiet moments in nature says:

A beautiful write Paul, I love this fire adding to the fire and how ‘sparks rain as if wanting to become stars.

  6. Jo-Anne Teal says:

The contrast in referencing a rain of fire sparks is bold, effective and beautifully written.

  7. I love the powerful imagery in this, the foundry, fire and sparks, where dreams are smelted.

  8. Vivian Zems says:

Love the eternal foundry where things happen to dreams. Methinks a much-coveted place. Enjoyed this.

  9. jillys2016 says:

Lilac, rosemary and birch wood – you set the imagery going with the scent of these. And love that title!

  10. Frank Hubeny says:

I like the sparks raining like stars.

  11. sanaarizvi says:

Wonderful! You brought the fire into the sky and back down again and then into us.

As long as there is hope there are recycled dreams. I especially like this image…”sparks rain as if
    wanting to become stars”.
