Peter Green

Posted: May 5, 2012 in Poetry, urban poems

Tonight’s dversepoets  prompt is music. Here’s one I wrote a while back after seeing Peter Green, founder member of the original Fleetwood Mac (still one of my fav blues bands) who was destroyed by acid drugs, but after over 20 years in recovery he tried to make some sort of comeback … it was heartbreaking to watch.

Was it the black magic woman
who gave us all the blues?
You standing in the lights,
a parody of all those years ago,

looking  twice the size and
not half the star you were.
Then writhing out the night
notes cascade from your guitar,

And once again a Man
of the World is filling the air.
But as you stand before us all,
acid head in part repaired,

your blues come back to haunt us
in a barely full city Civic Hall.
So let the memories rise to
capture what was gone.

And with cracked voice and guitar,
just let the blues roll on and on and on

Be it drugs, or just simple age, it can be very sad to see these shining stars pale. Then you have the ones who refuse to (and should have!) Sad tale you tell here this evening, but you do it well!

I think it’s so sad when our hero’s either don ‘t live up to our expectations , or throwaway their talent because they have no self discipline or control….fleet wood mac we’re an amazing band…. Such powerful music…music that still lives on today….it would have broken my heart to see the guy half the size he should be….shrunken due to drugs…some great rhyming sections in this…and great metaphors – such as ringing the night noted from the guitar…great stuff

your blues come back to haunt us…it is pretty sad to watch some of the guys try to make that come back and its just not the same….the magic gone…yes for some i would def rather live in their memories…

  4. Really well crafted, love how well you depicted him and the ravaging effects of addiction… A bit of his star dust scattered to the floor as drugs tarnish his shine.
